Assassin’s Creed Mirage – First Impressions!

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the latest addition to the iconic franchise, has arrived with a blend of mixed reviews, sparking both nostalgia and a longing for the series’ roots. Released on October 5th, 2023, this title is a bold return to the essence of the Assassin’s Creed experience. I’ve scoured the reviews, so let’s dive into the mesmerizing world of Mirage and discover what makes it a compelling choice for both dedicated fans and newcomers.

The Nostalgic Return to Form

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, as its name suggests, is indeed a mirage – a subtle blend of classic elements from the series combined with some modern twists. Cerealkillerz’s Gabriel Bogdan applauds Mirage as a concise entry in the franchise, but not without its hiccups. While it may not have completely committed to revisiting the series’ origins, it manages to invoke a sense of nostalgia with a dash of modernity. The game echoes with elements borrowed from its predecessors, a nod to the history of the series.

A Focus on Stealth and Simplicity

Assassin's Creed Mirage Stealth Gameplay

One aspect that resonates strongly with long-time fans is the return to a more stealth-focused experience. Ubisoft takes players back to the days of Altair and Ezio, with a leaner and more focused approach. Checkpoint Gaming’s Edie W-K appreciates the game’s return to its roots, emphasizing stealth over the RPG-style mechanics that have crept into recent titles. The game is a smaller experience, clocking in at 20-30 hours of streamlined gameplay, a refreshing change of pace from the sprawling open worlds we’ve seen before.

A Tale of Baghdad and Basim

Assassin's Creed Mirage Baghdad

Assassin’s Creed Mirage transports players to the heart of Baghdad, a historically rich and immersive setting. The city itself becomes a character in the game, offering an engaging and characterful adventure. The game’s central character, Basim, evolves from a humble thief into a true master assassin, a narrative journey that captures the essence of the Assassin’s Creed series. The game’s strong narrative, richly complemented by its setting, draws players into a world shrouded in secrets.

Revisiting the Original Identity

Michael Harradence of PlayStation Universe hails Mirage as a fantastic return to form for the franchise. The game’s adherence to the original design philosophy shines, capturing the core strengths of the series. Mirage is hailed as the most authentic Assassin’s Creed game in a decade, focusing on what made the series a beloved classic. This game, perhaps more than any recent entry, takes players back to the series’ roots, reminding them why they fell in love with Assassin’s Creed in the first place.

A Glimpse of the Future

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is not just about revisiting the past; it’s a tantalizing glimpse of what the future of the series could be. Ubisoft Bordeaux has taken the bold step of offering players the flexibility to enjoy the franchise in its modern guise through a lens of the past. This choice, as observed by Geek Culture’s Jake Su, can be both a return to an established recipe and a step forward, with many quality-of-life tweaks.

Is Mirage a Mirage?

Despite the nostalgia and return to form, Mirage isn’t without its flaws. Some reviews express concerns about a lack of variety in the main missions and an occasional sense of déjà vu. While the game may not be the ultimate solution to Assassin Creed’s identity crisis, it’s a start – an attempt to balance the series’ classic roots with more recent RPG-style gameplay. It’s a testament to Ubisoft’s commitment to evolving the series.

Conclusion: A Mirage Worth Exploring

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is, in many ways, a love letter to the franchise’s roots. It may not break new ground, but it excels at transporting players to an intricately designed Baghdad and providing a captivating narrative. With a focus on stealth, engaging storytelling, and a return to the series’ origins, it’s a title that appeals to both long-time fans and newcomers.

If you’re a dedicated fan longing for the series’ original identity or a newcomer looking for a taste of Assassin’s Creed’s legacy, Mirage is a game that’s well worth exploring. It may not be perfect, but it reminds us of what made Assassin’s Creed great in the first place.

Rainbow Six Extraction Looks SICK!

Rainbow Six Extraction

Hey gamers, hope you’re all doing well. We know that you were all looking forward to this one – the release of Rainbox Six Extraction. It is finally out since around a week and it looks absolutely amazing.

The game was delayed before, but what game hasn’t been delayed in the last year or two? Let’s not even talk about Cyberpunk 2077. Anyway, let’s get down to it! Is this game any good? Worth buying?

Rainbow-Six-Extraction-Aliens
Rainbow Six Extraction: Aliens!

The game is beautiful, aesthetically. Looks great and has terrific graphics. It is extraordinarily difficult and… it’s not fun playing alone. A lot of negative reviews about the game stem from the fact that it was too difficult and was just not good as a single-player game. Remnant from the Ashes had a similar problem but was still doable on lower difficulties, whereas extraction is just difficult.

One noteworthy thing is the story. It doesn’t make much sense and… just throws you in the game pretty much without any concrete plot or explanation. Sure, you’re there to shoot some alien testicles and have fun, but a good plot and a story can go a long way in making the experience much better. The campaign is also ridiculously repetitive and can get mentally exhausting – all the levels end up playing out the same way.

Rainbow-Six-Extraction-Gameplay
Rainbow Six Extraction Gameplay

This game feels like a glorified DLC or a half-sequel to Six Siege, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s a great game and has very decent mechanics. It is a LOT of fun with friends so you should definitely buy a 4 pack of this game and play it together in co-op. The tactical nature of the game should be lauded but is frustrating if you try to play it with randos (or alone).

Far Cry 6 Reviews Are Out – It’s Not Looking So Good :(

Far Cry 6 Cover Image

Far Cry 6 is out, finally. The glorious game and the sixth instalment in the Far Cry series by Ubisoft is up for grabs. With a strong star studded lead, it should have broken all sales records, right? Well, apparently even Giancarlo Esposito apparently couldn’t save the game…

It looks beautiful, the graphics are amazing but unfortunately the gameplay seems to be… repetitive. And so does the plot. It’s just like every Far Cry game since Far Cry 3 – evil dictator bad, hero takes him down with help from the locals and other factions – victory. Quoting Vaas from Far Cry 3, “insanity is doing the exact same fucking thing, over and over again, expecting shit to change.”, and quite ironical as it is, Ubisoft did the same thing and expected us to fall in love with it.

It is something to take note of though, most reviews that were average were given by critics or actual reviewers and trusted websites like Polygon, or IGN for that matter. The fans love the game apparently even though they know that these reviews (and the lack-luster gaming experience) exists; and are supporting it fully. It is pretty satisfying and fun to be fair, but unfortunately that feeling doesn’t last that long and wears down pretty fast due to the repetitiveness it has.

Yara (the place where Far Cry 6 takes place) is wonderful and a great area to explore, especially with the free open world atmosphere the game offers.

Check this video out to know more about the game and how it looks like – and if you should wait for a sale before getting it.

Well, that’s it for now folks, hope you have a smashing weekend and stay safe!
